“German Manufactories Initiative – Handmade-in-Germany“ (IDM) launches nationwide “Day of German Manufactories“

From 2014 on, September 20th becomes the nationwide „Day of German Manufactories“. This decision was made by the members of the association “German Manufactories Initiative “ at their general meeting last week in Berlin. The initiative calls on manufactories from all over the country to show visitors the unique processing of their handmade product in the context of an open-house presentation.  Hundreds of manufactories are called upon to participate, from the local shoemaker to the prestigious silver smith.

On the webpage www.tag-der-deutschen-manufakturen.de interested manufactories can sign up for participation in the event. At the same time, visitors can find out local participating manufactories. As a highlight, in collaboration with nationwide-operating manufactories, the IDM hosts a large exhibition on the historic site of the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (Royal Porcelain Manufactory) in Berlin. Here, the rich history behind the handmade products can be experienced.

“As employers, German manufactories make a great contribution to their respective regions and are known for persistence and trustfulness“, Michael T. Schröder said as the founder and chairman of the initiative. “Behind the doors, the manufacturing companies produce their products in long-lasting family tradition. On the ‘Day of German Manufactories’, these businesses get the opportunity to get embraced for their significance, as guarantors for quality and craftsmanship. They are the traditional basis as well as an integral part of the small- and medium-sized business sector – and as such an important factor for Germany’s reputation abroad”, Schröder said.

On September 19, one day before the “Day of German Manufactories”, the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy holds the 2nd symposium “Handmade-in-Germany” in exclusive collaboration with the IDM and the European Commission. At this event, politicians, experts and companies discuss major issues of the small- and medium-sized business sector and questions of recruitment and training in the manufactories.
