“S´elect” by Sudhaus wins iF Product Design Award 2014


Number one out of 3,000 submissions, Sudhaus was among the happy winners at this year’s iF Product Design Awards. The Iserlohn-based manufactory was awarded for its electronic lock „S´elect“ in the category “buildings“. In 11 evaluation criteria such as design quality, degree of innovation or universal design, “S´elect“ was able to convince the international jury of experts. In January, 50 experts from all over the world identified the winners of one of the world’s most prestigious design awards that a product can receive.

The owner-operated, traditional company from Iserlohn is known for sustainable, innovative solutions in the area of Development, Manufacturing and Distribution of locks and locking systems. Since 1844, the medium-sized company is driven by an awareness of tradition. Today, Sudhaus occupies a staff of 225 employees in Germany. At the time of its formation, the manufactory produced fittings, chains, and horse’s harness and even strap garters. Nowadays, Sudhaus assembles components, supplies the auto- as well as bags and luggage industries and thereby benefits from long-standing customers like e.g. SCOUT.

By winning the iF Product Design Award, Sudhaus also emphasizes the quality of German manufactories. As one of the 20 members of the Initiative Deutsche Manufakturen – Handmade-in-Germany Sudhaus embodies the standards of authentic manual labour and exceptional quality. Among the criteria of the initiative are, amongst others, a high valence of the materials used and an individual, customized manufacturing.
