German Manufactory Initiative launches successfully

German manufactories establish a mutual platform

In the course of a press conference at KPM QUARTIER in Berlin, the Initiative
Deutsche Manufakturen was set up today. The founding members are the well-known companies Burmester Audio Systems, Johannes Klais organ building manufactory, Kay Gundlack shoe manufactory, Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (KPM), Peter Bock finest nibs and ink-feed systems, Poggenpohl Möbelwerke, Stübben equestrian products and Welter Manufaktur für Wandunikate.

With this initiative, the manufacturers intend to concentrate their mutual interests and improve their significance even more. The founding members do not only want to present themselves as brand ambassadors of Germany but also to emphasize their importance as employers.

The participating companies mirror the enormous variety of German manufactories: From venerable companies like family enterprise Klais organ building manufactory, established in 1882, which created the Cologne Cathedral’s instruments, up to (the manufacturer) Burmester Audio Systems, founded in 1977, which equipped the new Porsche Panamera with a high-end sound system. Regarding their products, all members share the same interest in high quality as well as their attention to details. The philosophy “Handmade in Germany” is always present in their manufacturing processes.

Dr. Frank Müller, former Managing Director of Glashütte Original and designated expert for manufactories in Germany, gave the introductory speech. Reinhard Krause, Deputy Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, emphasized the initiative’s importance in terms of economic interests: “Thanks to their joint communication, “Handmade in Germany” delivers a positive contribution for an excellent reputation for Germany as a business location.” Afterwards Dieter Burmester, founder and Managing Director of Burmester Audio Systems and Kay Gundlack, shoemaker and owner of the Kay Gundlack shoe manufactory, expressed their motivation for founding the initiative. Dieter Burmester accentuated that he expected a stronger representation of interests from a membership.

As a first step the mutual internet presence www.handmade-in-germany.org was launched. The website portrays the participating manufacturers and gives information about the initiative’s background.
