The Initiative Deutsche Manufakturen – Handmade-in-Germany assembles leading figures for an exchange of views

The first exchange of views-meeting of German manufactories concluded with a clear objective: The appreciation for manufactories and their products must be discussed publicly and with more emphasis. For this purpose, a new basic understanding of aesthetics and culture is needed in Germany. The tenor of the debate was that this would only work if there is an intensive exchange and cooperation between the leading institutions.

Against the background of forging new alliances for the German manufactories, the Initiative Deutsche Manufakturen – Handmade-in-Germany recently invited leading figures to an exchange of views-meeting. Representatives of the German design scene eagerly exchanged ideas on how a common subject management in the interest of the enterprises should be shaped. For that reason, representatives from institutions such as the German Design Council, the International Design Center Berlin, bayern design and the network “Deutschlands Feine Maßmanufakturen“, discussed this issue in a familiar setting in the Berlin Capital Club.

Likewise present was Pascal Johanssen from the Direktorenhaus. In his magazine objects, Michael T. Schröder, chairman of the Initiative Deutsche Manufakturen, recently pledged for a rediscovery of the “attention for detail”. Even if several manufactories like to see their products positioned in the luxury segment, Handmade-in-Germany means more than high quality products. It rather symbolizes a high degree of trust in the producer behind the product.

The renaissance of manufactured products cannot hide the fact that the enterprises are currently facing considerable challenges: Forthcoming generation changes, particularly within the numerous family businesses, are often accompanied by entrepreneurial reorientations. A further issue is the ongoing shortage of skilled workers that, in part, endangers the existence of entire professions.

Therefore, the guests in Berlin Capital Club welcomed that the Initiative Deutsche Manufakturen will soon host a symposium on this issue in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs. In order to not leave it at this one single exchange of views-meeting, the roundtable initiated specific cooperations and decided to hold more meetings of this kind in the future. You will be kept informed about this matter on our website.
