Lamberts develops innovative UV protective glass

The Glashütte Lamberts glass manufactory, the last of its kind in Germany, proudly uses traditional methods to produce window glass for demanding restoration projects of historical windows and glazed furniture panes. The manufactory, based in Waldsassen in the Upper Palatinate, has developed and filed a patent application for “restauro® UV”, a novel transparent glass that embodies the perfect fusion of sophisticated UV protection and deep respect for heritage. It is thus the ideal glass for protective glazing in churches, museums and other types of buildings all over the world. The glass provides UV protection up to 400 nm, without the use of foil or coatings, to help preserve murals, paintings and images inside buildings.

restauro® UV is manufactured to the same stringent quality standards as all of the mouth-blown Glashütte Lamberts glasses. Each batch is checked by an independent laboratory, and each pane is additionally subjected to internal quality controls before delivery.

Two buildings have already been fitted out with this product: about 40 m² UV protective glass have been installed in the City Church in Wittenberg to shield its Lucas Cranach altarpiece against harmful UV radiation, and restauro® UV has also been installed in York Minster in the United Kingdom.

Glashütte Lamberts, the world market leader in traditional sheet glass manufacture, supplies artists and architects all around the world, from Taiwan to Togo. Lamberts and the other 19 members of the German Manufactories Initiative stand for the exceptional value and authenticity of products Handmade-in-Germany. The restauro® UV glass by Glashütte Lamberts is yet another example of German manufactories setting worldwide benchmarks in craftsmanship, quality and innovation.
