Members meeting 2011

"Handmade in Germany" established itself

From 8 to 14 members in 6 months: The „German Manufactory Initiative – Handmade in Germany“ established itself

At the first annual meeting of the „German Manufactory Initiative – Handmade in Germany“, taking place last Friday in Berlin, the chairman of the initiative Michael T. Schröder drew a first balance after the foundation in November 2010:

„In only six months and thanks to a supporting press we almost double our number of members. New members as e.g. Wünsch & CO. have applied to the admission. This proves that we were right in founding the initiative as a symbol of the strong German middle class sector.”

The members of the initiative discussed and agreed on a number of activities during their conference. Olaf Salié of the publishing house “Deutsche Standards” presented the planned book-project “German Manufactories” in cooperation with the initiative (Publication date autumn 2011). Furthermore, several themes were settled such as the symposium “Handmade in Germany”, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Economics, taking place in autumn 2011 as well. “This symposium implies priority solidarity with politics on the subject of foreign trade promotion, for example performances of the initiative overseas or the significant image of the business sector Germany”, added Dieter Burmester, owner of Burmester audio systems.

During the final tour at the Berlin manufactories, Bildgießerei Hermann Noack and WELTER Wandunikate, Thomas Oberle, Head of Public Relations at premium kitchen manufacturer Poggenpohl, summarized the previous success of the initiative: “I think, we wrote a piece of German business history. Widely known manufactories and traditional brands of different size and production came together to promote their products “Handmade in Germany” nationally and internationally and to underline the meaning of the production location Germany.”
